In the world of Twitter and microblogging, we need to keep our messages short. So we also need URL shortening services to keep URL short. It helps in saving space and keeps track of statistics of the link. We can easily know how often the link was opened.

To short a URL, we need to copy the link, Open the URL shortening service website, paste the link to shorten and click on short button. Then it will generate a short URL for the given URL. Although, the process is simple but we can make it faster by using browser add-ons and extensions. Confused? 1. Bitly

Bitly is a well-known URL shortening service that brings a simple browser tool for all major browsers. It has a chrome extension and a JavaScript-powered bitmarklet. Thus it brings a super-easy way to save & share links right from your browser. To shorten a link, click on this bitmarklet and it will open a sidebar with the URL of current tab in the text box along with the shorten link for the URL. If you wish to short another link, paste that URL in the box and hit Shorten button.

2. Goo.gl URL Shortner

Goo.gl is also a popular URL shortener by Google. It has a Chrome extension that allows users to quickly shorten a link without leaving the website. We do not need to visit the Goo.gl website. After installation, it adds a button in the omnibar. Once the button is clicked, current tab URL is shortened by the goo.gl and automatically copied to the clipboard. goo.gl also creates a QR code and additional details for the URL.

3. ChromeMUSE Multi URL Shortene

ChromeMUSE is a free URL shortener service available as extension for Gogle Chrome. It generates the short URL and automatically copy it to the clipboard.

When you click on the ChromeMUSE button in the omnibar, it generates the short URL for the current tab URL. It supports various URL shortening services which tou select in options and then advanced mode option.

4. ShortlyURL Shortener

ShortlyURL Shortened is a Firefox add-on that allows users to shorten any URL using mouse right-click or keyboard shortcut. It also auto copies the short URL to clipboard.
